Dr. Piñera is Founder and president of the International Center for Pension Reform as well as co-chair of The Cato Institute's Project on Social Security Privatization. He is also chairman of Proyecto Chile 2010, and editor and publisher of Economia y Sociedad. Dr. Piñera has published extensively. His most recent book is Chile 2010: Libertad, libertad mis amigos (1997). He has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and The Economist. Dr. Piñera transformed Chile serving as Minister of Labor and Social Security and Minister of Mining. He was the architect of the introduction of property rights into the Chilean mining industry, as well as the leader of Chile's social security privatization. He served as mayor of an impoverished Santiago neighborhood and later ran for President of Chile. Dr. Piñera completed his undergraduate studies at the Universidad Católica de Chile before receiving a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard. He can be contacted at jose@cato.org. |
