Russell Roberts

Russell Roberts is Professor of Economics and the J. Fish and Lillian F. Smith Distinguished Scholar at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University.

He runs a website, invisibleheart.com, where he publishes articles on economic subjects. He also co-authors a blog, Café Hayek, with Donald Boudreaux, another George Mason scholar. He has written several books including Invisible Romance: An Economic Romance and The Choice: A Fable of Free Trade and Protectionism, which was named one of the top ten books in 1994 by Business Week. He is working on a new book on how the emergence of order and unplanned cooperation create wealth and our standard of living. Mr. Roberts is a frequent commentator on National Public Radio's Morning Edition. He has written for The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, and he is the Features Editor and a founding advisory board member of the Library of Economics and Liberty website. He is also research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

Before coming to George Mason University, Roberts was at Washington University in St. Louis where he was the founding director of the Center for Experiential Learning at the John M. Olin School of Business and a Senior Fellow at the Weidenbaum Center on the Economy, Government, and Public Policy. Roberts has also taught at the University of Rochester, Stanford University, and UCLA.

Mr. Roberts holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago and received his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
